One San Diego home, before and after: a solar and battery story
A familiar starting point
A family in San Diego came to us the way a lot of people do -- tired of watching their electric bill climb every summer, and a little rattled by a recent outage that left them without power for most of an afternoon. They wanted two things: lower bills, and a way to keep the lights on when the grid couldn't.
Sizing it around real usage
We started where we always do -- with their actual usage, not a guess. A site assessment walked through roof orientation, shading, and how much sun really hits the house through the year. From there we sized a system around their real consumption, not a generic package pulled off a shelf.
Why battery storage
Battery storage was the other half of the plan. Panels alone stop producing after sunset; pairing the system with a battery meant the home could draw on power it had already generated during the day, instead of buying it all back from the utility once the sun went down.
From signed agreement to activation
Permitting and utility paperwork took the usual few weeks. Installation itself moved fast -- panels up, wiring run, battery integrated, system tested and commissioned, in a matter of days, not the drawn-out ordeal a lot of homeowners brace for.
What actually changed
The results showed up immediately. Their monthly bill dropped hard from day one, with the system covering most of their daily draw and banking the rest. And the next time the neighborhood lost power, they didn't -- which, for a family that had just lived through an outage, mattered as much as the savings.
None of that is a promise every home gets identical results -- your usage, roof, and system size all shape the outcome. But it's a real example of what a properly sized solar-plus-battery system can actually do, not a brochure number.
